Christina,
did you make any New Year's resolutions for 2010?
No. Is it too
late? What I have instead is a visual image board
with my goals displayed. Yes, I read The
Secret (it was a gift!).
One of those images is a check written for an
excessive amount of money (that goal hasn't
manifested itself yet).
So
tell me how you came to be cast as Alma in the
horror short with Adam Hulin called
'Its Hour Come Round'.
No magic,
mystery or nepotism here. I was selected to
audition by Adam, the director, and I did a cold
read and interview with Adam and one of the
producers. I think it was my dimples that sold
them. "Its Hour Come Round" works alone
as a short horror film (already making the
festival rounds with aplomb). A version of
"Hour" will also be included in the
theatrical release feature "Vault of
Darkness."
Can you give
me a teaser that will make it irresistible to the
www.racksandrazors.com readers?
If you're
a fan of the "Twilight Zone" and
"Amazing Stories," and you dig the
styles of Hitchcock and Chabrol, then "Its
Hour Come Round" is mandatory viewing. For
the rest of you, it has hot girls, blood and a
twist that will make M. Night Shyamalan beat his
head against the wall.
You also made another
movie with Mr. Hulin called 'Vault
of Darkness' which is listed as a
horror/comedy. How do those two divergent things
mesh in the movie?
"Vault"
is an amalgamation of every element in film:
horror and gore, action and adventure, surrealist
comedy, thought-provoking drama and science
fiction.
You have
appeared in several films one of which is your
work as Alta in 'Last Goodbye'
in 2004 with David Carradine and Faye Dunaway.
Any gossip or goings on that set you would care
to share?
Actually,
nothing to report there. I was thrilled to be
cast in the film because it's a melting pot of
Hollywood genes. Faye Dunaway's son, Liam, and
Cybill Shepherd's daughter, Clementine, were in
it (I met them briefly, and they seemed perfectly
nice, normal and cute). The offspring/relations
of Harry Dean Stanton, Mark Rydell, David
Carradine, Anthony Quinn, Andy Garcia were also
in the film. I think I developed a contact high
from all the thespian DNA.
You
also made a movie called 'The
Chocolate Fetish' in 2004. If you
had to divulge one of your own personal fetishes
or obsessions what would that be?
I need my
words to sustain me (nonfiction, true crime,
Edith Wharton, Joyce Carol Oates, Joan Didion).
Chocolate truffles, fromage, "Dexter,"
order, honesty. I collect Gizmos from
"Gremlins." I love to play outside.
Fascinated by human anatomy, pharmacology,
medical journals. One of my favorite experiences
was dissecting a nurse shark (so I feel I'm good
to go when "Grey's Anatomy" calls).
What is the
scariest thing that has ever happened to you on a
movie/TV/or commercial set?
Performing
my own stunts!!!! Getting thrown into a wall and
onto a floor while filming "Jeopardy."
Running in high heels and being attacked in
"Its Hour Come Round." I've literally
bled for film.
Do you have any other
projects lined up you would like to let the www.racksandrazors.com readers know about?
I just
shot the lead in the horror short "Sunshine
Monday," which was directed by Laura Green
and Elijah Allred. And if you want to see me do
comedy, please check out the theatrical release
feature "Much Ado About Middle School"
with industry vets Lee Meriwether and Bill Cobbs.
Vampires,
werewolves, zombies, witches, creatures, aliens,
telemarketers...what does it for you horrorwise
Christina and why?
What
scares me are the actual real-life situations
that spiral out of control. Home invasions, car
problems, health insurance. See
"Sicko," and you'll totally be with me.
What was the
first movie to scare the shit out of you?
"Jaws"
and "Jurassic Park" were pretty
seminal. I grew up reading Stephen King, Poe and
Hawthorne, so I was always drawn to the macabre.
And what was
the last horror movie you saw that really annoyed
you?
I'm all
about diplomacy. But if I'm watching any genre of
film, and there are plot inconsistencies big
enough to drive a Mack truck through, that takes
me out. But I will say, watching
"Irreversible" made me physically ill -
but that was the desired effect.
Okay, we're
pulling into the Christina Cupo Drive In. What
three horror flicks are on the triple bill for
tonight and what goodies are they going to be
serving up at the concession stand?
I'm serving bacon-wrapped
scallops, Portobello mushroom and black olive
mini-pizzas, katsudon and lobster tails. For
dessert, Brule, marzipan and sorbet. All with
flatware.
1. "The Silence of the Lambs" is my
kind of film: a smart female protagonist and the
best villain in the history of cinema playing
psychological chess (all culled from an amazing
novel).
2. Spanish film "The Orphanage" creeped
me out and also made me cry.
3. "Them" is a French film which makes
you never look at kids the same way again.
And your
favorite horror flick death scene?
Watch the
French film "Les Diaboliques." Clouzot.
Wow.
What's the
best Halloween costume you ever had?
I was a
Cereal Killer one year in middle school. I wore
my grandfather's overcoat with mini Frosted
Flakes and Cocoa Puffs boxes attached to me. The
boxes were stabbed with little white plastic
knives. My idea!
What scares
you in real life?
True
evil. When people not only do bad things because
they can - but also because they enjoy it. |
